Living The Practice: finding your still point on and off the mat

Title of retreat

With Paul, Tess and Nico

Retreat description

As recent times have shown us, everything can change - in fact, change is the only thing that doesnโ€™t change.

However, according to yogic philosophy there is another thing which does not change - the still point inside us all. Through yoga, meditation and being in nature we can cultivate a friendship and familiarity with that peace point within, a place where we can turn to for support and stillness when the world around us gets turned upside down. Or even just after a bad day.

The focus of the retreat will be to help you experience that sublime stillness that lies within each one of us, then give you techniques to access that point - both on and off the mat - emphasising how to LIVE yoga, not just DO yoga.

This retreat will take place at Watamu Treehouse in Kenya.

Paul Krystall

Paul has been teaching Dru Yoga and Dru Meditation since 2004, and been practicing himself for many years before that.

Dru is a graceful and potent form of yoga, based on soft flowing movements, directed breathing and visualisation. Dru works on body, mind and spiritโ€”improving strength and flexibility, creating core stability, removing energy blockages, building a heightened feeling of positivity, and deeply relaxing and rejuvenating your whole being.

People call Dru the โ€˜yoga of the heartโ€™ โ€” come and open your heart in a Dru Yoga session.

Tess Andersen

Tess is an Ashtanga/Vinyasa and Yin yoga teacher from Kenya. She became devoted to the practice of yoga as it played a significant role in her own healing journey. As a result, she feels passionate about the immense power of yoga and truly believes that yoga can be for everybody. She aims to emphasise that it is a practice that extends far beyond the mat.

Yin Yang Yoga her my preferred style of postural yoga as this leaves her feeling a sense of inner balance. It combines the surrendering, meditative Yin yoga with a more active Vinyasa style in the same flow. When holding the space she likes to weave in elements of the spirituality of yoga in order to bring her students back to its philosophical roots.

A translation for โ€œyogaโ€ can be union. This union is exactly why she teaches yoga. Itโ€™s an honour to be able to unite others through this healing practice where we can all play a part uplifting the collective.

Nicodemus

Born and raised in a small village near Malindi, Nicoโ€™s first role in the Treehouse team was as a gardner. Over the next 5 years, after participating in weekly Treehouse team yoga classes, he developed a deep interest in yoga. He learnt to swim to be able to help set up the SUP yoga classes, and two years ago undertook the Africa Yoga Project teacher training. He is now one of the regular Treehouse teachers, as well as leading three community classes in the Watamu area, including yoga for children.
