Watamu Marine National Park & Reserve

Kayak Mida Creek Watamu

The Watamu Marine Park runs the length of Turtle Bay Beach from the mouth of Mida Creek in the South to the headland dividing Turtle Bay Beach from Blue Lagoon in the North - the reef is the Eastern boundary. Mida Marine Reserve encompasses Mida Creek to the West. The park and reserve are managed by Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) and recognized as UNESCO biospheres. As Treehouse is situated on the Marine Park, it’s necessary to have a ticket whenever venturing out into the water with goggles on).

You will need a KWS ticket if you go on any boat – sunset boat, dolphin boat, glass-bottom boat and any time you wear goggles. It is not necessary to have a KWS ticket just to swim in the Marine Park but wearing goggles/masks in the Park is seen as snorkeling and tickets are required.

There is no fishing of any kind allowed in the Marine Park, and traditional methods only in the Marine Reserve. Dogs are allowed on the Beach during certain specified hours at sunrise and sunset, but owners must be in control of them and carry a lead.

Our office will help you purchase day tickets. To get resident tickets, it is necessary to provide a Kenya ID – passport with residency or alien card – no exceptions. If you dont have your ID, you must pay non-resident rates.

·Please check with the management on the situation with tickets before you go off to do watersports and we will do our best to guide you. This page contains our interpretation of the latest KWS procedures and prices, to assist our guests. We apologize in advance for anytime the page is different than actual procedures, so it is best to check before you go on a trip.
